Where’s My Cat? #6

My Disciples,

Today I bring you the sixth installment in the “Where’s My Cat?” creative series.  Now, I must say, this one puzzles Me, because I know that people are aware of this particular danger to their cats.  How do I know?  Well, the Guardians of Otis both work with wildlife, and they tell Me that people are constantly calling them concerned about this very thing.

Where's My Cat? #6- Coyote Snack

Whenever someone’s kitty goes missing in our area, it seems like the first thing their guardian says is that they think a Coyote might have eaten them.  Usually they continue by saying that they have seen Coyotes in the area.  So…if you have seen Coyotes in the area, why on earth would you be letting kitty go outside where you know the Coyotes live!?

Yes, if you allow your kitty to roam free, he or she very well may end up being eaten by a Coyote, or any number of other wild animals for that matter.  You cannot control the behavior of a wild animal, but you can control the movements of your kitty.  Keep kitty safely contained and you will never have to worry about him or her becoming a wild animal’s snack.

Where’s My Cat? #5

My Disciples,

Today I bring you the fifth installment in the “Where’s My Cat?” creative series.  I should warn you though that this one is a touch on the gruesome side.  Unfortunately, many things that happen to free-roaming kitties are not very pleasant, and this danger is very real.  I heard the Guardians of Otis talking, and this very thing happened to at least two cats that they know about.  I am so relieved that they would NEVER put The Brothers and Me in a situation where this could happen to us.

Mistaken for a Dog Toy

Where's My Cat? #5- Mistaken For A Dog Toy

If your kitty is allowed to roam free and unprotected, kitty may wander into the path of a dog that is not very friendly toward cats.  Not only will you feel horrible if kitty is injured or killed by the neighbor’s dog, the neighbor will feel horrible as well.  After all, even if their pet is appropriately contained in a fenced area that is escape-proof for dogs, kitties can still easily get in and out.  It is the cat Guardian’s responsibility to ensure that kitty cannot put him or herself in harm’s way.  Failing to exercise that responsibility can result in the worst possible outcome for kitty.

Where’s My Cat? #4

My Disciples,

It’s time for image #4 in the “Where’s My Cat?” creative series.  When a cat guardian lets their cat roam free and unprotected, anything can happen.  “Where’s My Cat?” explores just a few of the many possible explanations of why kitty has disappeared.  Here’s #4:

Animal Shelter

Where's My Cat #4- At The Animal Shelter

Yes, when kitty goes missing it is quite possible that some responsible neighbor has taken him or her to the animal shelter.  If cats are roaming the neighborhood, it’s often very difficult to tell the difference between a stray kitty and one that still has guardians.  Knowing that the wide world is a dangerous place for kitties, many concerned people (The Guardians of Otis included) will err on the side of caution and take a free-roaming kitty to the animal shelter.

So if your kitty has disappeared, your first phone call should be to your local shelter.  They may have your kitty.  And if you wish to greatly reduce the chances that you will ever have to ask the question, “Where’s My Cat?” you should come up with a safe confinement plan for kitty.  It really is the responsible thing to do.

Where’s My Cat #3

My Disciples,

Today I bring you the third image in the “Where’s My Cat?” creative series.  Again, this series explores the many possible answers to where outdoor cats have gone when they have disappeared.  Here’s #3:

Where's My Cat #3

Where's My Cat #3- Exotic Meat Shop

If you let your kitties wander outside where they are unprotected, you have no control over their fate.  For all you know they could become someone’s dinner.  Granted, they are more likely to become dinner for a wild animal than a human, but chances are you’ll never know one way or the other.  Do the right thing and keep your kitties safely contained.  If you don’t and your kitty disappears, I wouldn’t recommend trying the special at Bob’s.

Where’s My Cat #2

My Disciples,

Today I bring you the second image in the “Where’s My Cat?” series.  As you may recall, the purpose of this series is to attempt to shed some light on the mystery of the disappearing outdoor cat.  When an irresponsible cat guardian lets their cat wander free, they often suddenly find themselves cat-less.  Each image in this series explores one of the infinite possibilities that might have prevented their cat from coming home.  Here is “Where’s My Cat?” number 2.

Where's My Cat #2- Found A New Home

Yep, maybe kitty just went out and found someone else to be his or her guardian.  It happens quite often, especially when a kitty feels neglected, ignored or just plain unprotected.  Frankly, of all of the reasons for your cat to disappear, this is the one with the best outcome for kitty (assuming his or her new guardians are responsible and attentive).

If you keep your kitty safely contained, fully enriched and well loved, you should never have to worry about waking up one day to find that kitty has dumped you for another.

Where’s My Cat? #1

My Disciples,

As I mentioned several days ago, Brother Oliver’s renewed interest in photography inspired Me to delve back into My own creative side.  To that end, I put the Guardians to work to help make My creative vision a reality.  You see, for a long time I have realized that guardians who let their cats outside really have no idea where their kitties are or what they are up to.  They probably have a romanticized view of their kitty frolicking around the neighborhood in pure outdoor bliss, but at any given moment their cat might be experiencing something very different from that.  The 40-plus lost cat posters that I have shared here on The Blog of Otis are a testament to that fact.

So, when an irresponsible guardian lets their cat go outside into the world without walls, they undoubtedly wonder what happened to their cat when he or she does not return.  My new series of illustrations titled, “Where’s My Cat?” should help to solve that mystery by showing some of the possible scenarios that can lead to the disappearance of an outdoor kitty.  Today I bring you the first image in the series.

Where's My Cat #1- Abducted By Aliens

Where's My Cat #1- Abducted By Aliens

So there you have it.  If you’re cat is missing, or outside right now, as far as you know he or she may have been abducted by aliens.  Statistics that I just made up show that if you keep your cat safely contained he or she will be 97.5% less likely to be abducted by aliens.  Do the right thing.  Give your kitty safe boundaries so you will never need to ask, “Where’s My Cat?”
