Preparing for Meowmorial Day

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas.

Yesterday, I entered the living room and saw Brother Oliver sitting on a blanket in the middle of the floor. He seemed lost in thought, and he occasionally muttered to himself. I heard him say something like, “I just don’t know if I can… I mean… I still can’t believe that they’re… gone…”

Brother Oliver was sitting in the middle of the living room thinking and talking quietly to himself.

Meowmorial Day 2014 Call For Submissions

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas.

Meowmorial Day is nearly upon us. For those of you who have become Disciples of Otis only recently here is what Meowmorial Day is:

MEOWMORIAL DAY- THE FIRST MONDAY IN JUNE

Meowmorial Day is a day to remember all of the cats that we have loved and lost.  Our feline friends bring so much joy to our lives, they deserve to be remembered with respect and gratitude.  Plant a tree in their memory.  Donate to an animal rescue organization in their name.  Most of all, just remember them all for the special individuals they were.

This year’s observance will be a bit hard for all of us here at Cult headquarters as it will be the first since the passing of both Leader Otis and Mama Cat. Brother Oliver, Brother Henry, and I are still trying to sort out which one of us will act as master of ceremony for the observance as it was always Leader Otis who held the honor in the past.

Thomas Meowmorial Day

Meowmorial Day is a day to remember, and honor, the felines we have loved and lost. This year, that includes Leader Otis and Mama Cat.

Rest assured that we will sort out the details and the observance will go forward as planned, and we hope you will join us in honoring as many kitties as possible on this special day.

If you would like your kitty to be included in this year’s Cult of Otis Meowmorial Day observance, please send your photos and stories to cultofotis@gmail.com by noon on May 29.

The Brothers Overdid It

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas. Well, we all really got into the Mew Year’s spirit and danced our buns off last night, but around midnight The Brothers broke out the catnip. I didn’t have any because I was still too busy dancing at the time.

Thomas still rockin'

The Brothers broke out the catnip around midnight. I was still too busy dancing to partake.

The Cult of Otis Rockin’ Mew Year’s Eve!

Disciples of Otis,

Brother Oliver here. Mew Year’s Eve has arrived and all of us kitties are having a party. 2013 was a rough year, and frankly we are glad to see it coming to an end. We are welcoming the New Year with a boisterous show of optimism by dancing our furry little buns off all day and all night long. It’s still early here, but Brother Henry and I have already been at it for hours!

Brother Henry and I have already been dancing for hours!

Even Thomas is getting in on the merriment, although he insists that Brother Henry and I clear the dance floor when he feels the urge to boogie. That kid can really kick up his heels!

Thomas kicking up his heels

Brother Henry and I take a break when Thomas feels the urge to kick up his heels.

As it gets closer to midnight, we’re going to break out the catnip and really get this party started! Have a great Mew Year’s Eve, everyone!

Box Day 2013 Catstravaganza!

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas, and it is my honor to be the Grand Marshal for Box Day 2013! I’m still a little nervous, but I think I can do this. Ummm… wait… what do I do again? Oh no! I forgot! I… WHAT BROTHER OLIVER? JUST SHOW THEM THE PICTURES? Oh, yeah! Without further ado, let’s look at this year’s submissions!

Our first submission comes to us all the way from Brazil! Disciple of Otis Ivy sent a wonderful photo of her cats Gigi and Juju sitting a box together. Both kitties were adopted and Ivy says they will never be in Limbo again. That makes me really happy!

That’s a mighty fine box sit Juju an Gigi!

My Catsmas Surprise Didn’t Pan Out

Disciples of Otis,

Brother Oliver here. I thought it was the best idea for a Catsmas surprise ever. The Guardian had left the wrapping paper right there on the floor. It would be so easy!

Oliver and wrapping paper 1

It was going to be the best Catsmas surprise ever!

My plan was to wrap myself in the paper turning myself into a kitty shaped Catsmas present. I would then ask Brother Henry to put all of your addresses on the outside of the package and drop me in the mail. That way I would be dropped off at each of your houses and when you brought me inside I would burst out of the wrapping paper shouting “Merry Catsmas!”. When I got myself mostly wrapped, I told Brother Henry my plan, but I did not get the response from him that I expected.

Oliver and wrapping paper 2

When I was mostly wrapped, I told Brother Henry my plan. His response was unexpected.

Brother Henry was sitting on one of the Guardian’s laps nearby. I had expected him to get all excited when I told him what I was doing. I thought he would immediately jump down and help put my plan into action. Instead, he started laughing! He said, “Brother Oliver! That will never work! The mail people aren’t going to deliver you to hundreds of different people all over the world! Plus, you know very well that cats, dogs, and other animals should never be given as presents! What kind of message will it send if you arrive at people’s houses wrapped up in a package?”

Henry laughing

Brother Henry didn’t think my idea was very good.

Feeling a little deflated I said, “OK Brother Henry, then how do you suggest I wish all Disciples of Otis a Merry Catsmas?”, to which he replied, “Ummm… how about you just say it in the blog?” I admit, if kitties could blush, I would have. But I felt a little annoyed that Brother Henry was right, so I said, “Yeah, OK, that’s all well and good, but what do you suggest I do with this wrapping paper then? Should it just go to waste?” Brother Henry said, “Hmmm… well, no… I think you should ask Thomas what to do with it. I bet he’ll have a suggestion for you.” So I did ask Thomas… and he did have a suggestion.

At Thomas’s suggestion… I am the Wolf Eel

So, Merry Catsmas from the Wolf Eel, and all of the rest of us here at The Cult of Otis. May your day be filled with love, joy, and lots of kitties.

Thomas is Nervous About Box Day

Disciples of The Leader Otis,

Brother Henry here. Thomas is really nervous about being the Grand Marshal for Box Day this year. He’s been running all over the house mumbling, “So much to do… must get this right… must make Leader Otis proud!”

Thomas on the move

Thomas has been dashing all around the house mumbling to himself. He is really nervous.

Box Day 2013: Call for Submissions

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas. As Leader Otis had to leave us this year, the honor of being the Grand Marshal of Box Day has fallen to me. I am excited to take on the responsibility despite my sadness over the circumstances that required it.

I accept the position of Box Day Grand Marshal with excitement and a bit of sadness.

Mama Cat’s Fourth of Mewly Flier-works Extravaganza!

My Disciples,

We all went to My Outdoor Domain today at the appointed hour to witness what Mama Cat promised would be a flier-works show the likes of which we had never seen. Since none of us had ever seen a flier-works show, or even knew what one was, we didn’t doubt her claim. The newly knighted Thomas took a front row seat next to Brother Oliver, while Brother Henry took up position on an elevated platform. This was partly so he could better manage security during the event, and partly because he was really excited and wanted a good view. I sat in the back. Since My reflexes are a little slow these days, I was afraid I might get hit by an errant flier-work.

The Spectators 1

We all got in position to view what we knew would be the best flier-works show we had ever seen.

You Are Cordially Invited

People and fur People who like The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas. Well… actually, I guess it’s SIR Thomas now, but you can still call me Thomas. I have not let my knighthood go to my head. Ummm… but I was completely overwhelmed by the kind comments from so many of you guys yesterday! Thank you very much! I will do my best to faithfully fulfill the duties bestowed upon me as the first official knight of The Cult of Otis. Now, on to today’s business.

Tomorrow is a terribly frightening  day for animals in the United States of America… which is where I am told we live. In this country, tomorrow is called “Independence Day”, and I guess it is a day when American humans celebrate their independence from fire safety, noise ordinances, and general peace and quiet. From what I understand, the Guardians of Otis actually swept me up in The Capture on July 1st last year so I would not be outside during the crazy explode-a-thon on the 4th. I guess it is a day when more dogs and cats go missing than any other day of the year. If you have not yet fully come to the light about keeping your cats safely confined, please, at the very least, do so tomorrow if you are in the United States. Actually, please do it if you are anywhere else in the world too.

Thomas

If you are in the United States of America, please keep your cats safely confined tomorrow. Actually, keep them safe every day, no matter where you are.

July 4th, or rather, The Fourth of Mewly means something different for us here at The Cult of Otis. It is an international holiday known as Dependence Day. Here is how we describe the day on The Cult of Otis website:

“Dependence Day- The Fourth of Mewly

Dependence Day is a day to recognize the relationship that has evolved between humans and domestic cats. Domestic cats depend on humans to provide them with the care, protection and affection that they require to survive. Domestic cats should never be left to fend for themselves in the world at large. They need your help, and Dependence Day is the day to renew your commitment to help any lost, abandoned or feral domestic cats that you encounter.”

So that is what Dependence Day is all about. We do not celebrate dependence day by blowing things up. We celebrate dependence day by lifting kitties up! We make them safer. We enrich their lives. We try to alleviate their suffering. I am excited to announce that Mama Cat has cordially invited all of us to celebrate Dependence Day with her! Although Mama’s guardian still makes her live in Limbo, she has found much joy in enrichment and care provided by the Guardians of Otis. She asked me to invite you all to what she calls “a big, Dependence Day flier-works show.” I don’t know what “flier-works” are, but they sound pretty exciting!

Mama Cat's invite

Mama Cat cordially invites you to attend her Dependence Day flier-works show!

So join us tomorrow for what promises to be a rousing celebration of kitty dependence. I do not know what the day holds in store, but Mama Cat has assured me that there will be absolutely nothing wiener dog related. That alone made me very excited for tomorrow!
