I Think I Made A Bad First Impression

People and fur people who are Disciples of The Leader Otis,

It’s Thomas.

Sooooo… ummmm… I am kind of feeling a little bit embarrassed right now. Yesterday, The Guardians were interviewing a person that will be taking care of The Brothers and me when The Guardians are away for a few days. I uhhhh… well… I am really sorry to say that I sort of lost my stuff while they were here.

Thomas embarrassed

I did… I lost my stuff. How embarrassing.

Now, you are probably wondering, “How bad could it have been?” Well… remember how good I got at doing Mama Cat’s Flying Squirrel move? If not, here is a picture to remind you.

This is me doing the Flying Squirrel move that Mama Cat taught me.

OK, now imagine me panicking, hissing as loudly as I can, running back and forth a few times, and then doing this move about four feet in the air, bouncing off the back of the cat caretaker as she was coming up the stairs toward me, landing at the bottom of the stairs, and then tearing off at full speed and not stopping until I was safely wedged into a pile of pillows in the bedroom closet in the basement. Yeah. That is how bad it could have been. To add insult to injury, as I was hiding in the closet Brother Henry poked his head in and said, “Dude… what happened? Did you see a 100 pound wiener dog or something?” I did not dignify that question with a response.

Thomas out.

  1. I don’t think you made a bad impression at all! This was merely an important part of the interview session. The guardians should thank you for your quick thinking.

  2. That caretaker human must be patient to do this work. If they are not then they need to do something else. I say you were just letting her know you were athletic.

Thomas, the key is that you *bounced* off the back of the cat caretaker. I’m trying to put myself in her shoes, and I certainly would have preferred a bounce to a 4-point landing with claws out. Bonus points for not knocking her down the stairs.

  4. Changes are never easy. Occasional humans must remember that. (Don’t worry, she probably does!)

  5. Oh Thomas, you must really have been upset to have reacted that way. I am sure the caretaker understands that you are sensitive. It will be okay. Sometime, cat caretakers bring treats and will break out the nip a little more often that the Guardians. SSSSHHHHH…don’t tell them I said that, okay???

  6. Darling Thomas, I’m sorry that you lost your stuff and I hope you find it soon. And that your caregiver wears judiciously padded clothing in case you don’t. And finally, I hope that your Guardians have a wonderful time where they’re going, although I’m sure they’ll miss you and the brothers.

  7. Thomas my Amber and May would do little different than you did. Some things you just can’t fight lol. Humans fight human nature stuff and Felines…feline stuff. It will be alright my friend.

Oh Thomas! I am so sorry to have freaked you out!!! However your acrobatics were quite impressive. Do they have a ‘dock kitties’ competition? You have the hops!!

It’s ok Sir Thomas….most of us think new people are scary too.

  11. We think they’ll forgive you, Thomas.

Oh Sir Thomas!!! That would NOT be a bad first impression in my eyes if I was the caretaker. All that would say to me is “Listen well different human. We cats will be watching you at all times so be on your toes and give us the care we deserve!” And maybe, just a little bit, I would be thinking, this one is the brave protector of the group and if I mess up he’ll let me know about it in short order!!!!!

  13. Bouncing is better than pouncing. Remember to breathe, Sir Thomas.

  14. Those are some amazing moves!
    Have a great weekend…
