Disciples of The Leader Otis,
Brother Henry here.
Box Day 2014 is nearly upon us! I have been given the honor of being this year’s Master of Ceremonies, so I’ve been sitting lots of boxes to get myself in the right headspace for the job.
For those of you who only recently became Disciples of Otis, let me remind you of what Box Day is all about. Here is how it is described on The Cult of Otis website:
BOX DAY- DECEMBER 26
No one knows why, but cardboard boxes are the most interesting things in the universe to a cat. No matter how many fancy beds you buy, no matter how much you spend on cat trees or other kitty “furniture”, no matter how many balls, catnip toys, laser pointers and other items you provide, your cat will lose interest in all of them the moment you place an empty cardboard box on the floor. If a box is present, it must immediately be investigated and, most likely, sat in. Only cats know the secret of the box’s appeal, but Box Day is the day of the year to celebrate your feline’s affinity for all things cardboard. So on December 26, fill an entire room with boxes of varying size, shape and depth and let kitty explore them and sit in them to his or her heart’s desire.
Please join us in celebrating Box Day by sending us your photos of kitties sitting boxes. There’s only one kind of box we don’t want to see kitty in, and that’s a litter box. Even kitties need privacy now and then.
If you would like to participate in our Box Day celebration, please send your photo submissions to cultofotis@gmail.com by 3 pm Pacific Time, December 23. If you have the technical know-how to do so, please rename the photos with your kitty’s name, and resize them so that they are 600 pixels on their longest side. If you do not know how to do that, don’t worry. Just send your photos and Brother Oliver will take care of the rest.
So please send your photos right away! I’ll be here, in this box, waiting for them.

Box Day. THE BEST PART OF CHRISTMAS FOR KITTIES!
I agree! – Brother Henry
“Luna! Come here, please, and get in this box. No, not the laundry basket, THIS BOX. You know, the same one you jump into almost every night. Yes, it’s still raining outside, there’s no need to keep checking the window. The box is HERE, Luna, not over by the window. Okay, look, I’ll just pick you up and put you in the box … Luna, come back here!” *sigh*
Uh-oh, Rhiannon. I guess I failed to mention that cat’s love to sit in boxes, but only if it was their idea first. The only thing we love more than sitting in boxes is doing the exact opposite of what our Guardians ask us to do. 🙂 -Brother Henry
I’ve noticed this, Brother Henry, yet I continue to act as if I haven’t. We humans can be awfully slow learners.
Otis is extremely handsome. I feel unworthy, yet all giggly and fawning at the same time. Is he available for parties?
Ummmmmm… allthoughtswork… Leader Otis passed away more than a year ago. If you would like to learn more about who He was and what He stood for, a good place to start is with his final message to the world. – Brother Henry
No, thanks. I’m going to continue to think of him as handsome and available.
RC Cat has been examining all the boxes that have been appearing and has informed Staff that her selection will be made when the time is right…probably midnight….when she will yowl her notification loud enough to be acknowledged by Staff who waste so much time taking up space on Her bed.
Midnight is the best time for decision making! It’s also the best time to get rid of unwanted hairballs, preferably right on the bed that the Guardians are sleeping in. – Brother Henry
Brother Henry I am sure you are smiling in that last photo!!!!

I am, Sherri-Ellen. Boxes make me so happy. 🙂 – Brother Henry
