Things That Go Hiss In The Night

My Disciples,

As you know, the Guardians have been letting Mama Cat have free roam of the house while they are home. This has been going well, except when Brother Henry tries to make friends. Since things have been going so well, they decided to see what would happen if they let Mama Cat have free roam of the house all night as well. Honestly, it went great… until 2 am when Thomas and Brother Henry started having their nightly wrestle-fest. It started the usual way, with them tearing around the house after each other, making it sound like a herd of wild horses was loose in the house. But When Brother Henry jumped up on the large cat tree with drawers by the living room windows, He encountered something he did not expect.

When Brother Henry jumped up on the cat tree with drawers, he encountered something he did not expect.

Henry was face to face with Mama Cat! I guess he hadn’t noticed that the door to her safey-safe in the office was open. I’m thinking that all of the ruckus that Thomas and Brother Henry had been causing had caused Mama Cat a bit of concern. Brother Henry said, “Ummmm… Hi Mama!” Mama cat replied, “HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!”

Brother Henry said, “Hi”. Mama said, “HISSSSSSS!”

Mama Cat then jumped down and dove under the couch. From underneath there, she started growling and yelling at Brother Henry. Brother Henry jumped down and Thomas joined him. They were both staring underneath the couch trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with Mama Cat. All the growling and yowling woke the Guardians. The bigger Guardian coaxed Mama out from under the couch, put her in her safey-safe and closed the doors, thus defusing the whole situation. Thomas and Brother Henry returned to their nighttime craziness and Mama snuggled in to her tomcat free abode.

So it looks like the tension between Brother Henry and Mama Cat is ongoing. I shall have to think long and hard on this to see if there is anyway I can help bring them together. At this point though, the possibility seems remote.

Hi Otis, have the guardians tried using feliway? I am not sure if you get it in the America but it is a plug in or spray that gives off happy cat pheramones

    • Yep. The Guardians have those little diffuser things all over the place, plus a bottle or two of the spray. I think Mama just doesn’t want to socialize, and Brother Henry doesn’t read cues very well. πŸ™‚

  3. Ooopps! Mama Cat has been on her own for so long…and yet she has known everyone for a long time as she always came by the outdoor domain. Hope is always present

    • Yes, there is always hope, Savannah. Even if Mama needs to go back to her room each night though, she seems to be fine with it. No matter what we have a workable solution. πŸ™‚

Dear Otis, it takes time. Mama Cat has only been inside for a couple of weeks. Have patience. Selleck and His Person, Emily.

  5. Feliway might be an option indeed.

I personally don’t see how Mama Cat can resist such handsomeness! And in double doses too!

I have to admit that feline growling and yelling can be pretty hilarious. Especially when a human imagines that English human words are in there. Perhaps laughing is not the most helpful reaction, though…

Come to think of it, if I was Moma Cat hanging out in the middle of the night wondering who in the world had let the thundering herd lose in the house, and Brother Henry suddenly jumped up almost in my face, I would probably do more than HSSSSSS!! Paws crossed that sooner than later she comes to understand that he means no harm.

  9. “The cat tree with drawers” is just what Priestess Jen thinks of the dresser too! Purrs that Brother Henry and Mamma Cat will learn to get along soon.

  10. Oh don’t give up hope, Leader. I still believe it can be worked out.

  11. Mama Kitty has been on her own for so long. It can take months for cats to learn to live together, so don’t give up hope. Try to keep their interactions as positive as possible.

    • I’ve noticed the Guardians have been giving much praise and many treats to everyone and that helps defuse some of the tension. Even if Mama and Henry never fully come to an agreement though, Mama seems perfectly content to have her own private quarters at night. πŸ™‚

  12. Perhaps you could make a place where Mama can watch the others from on high and not end up nose to nose with them? My lady cat found a way to the top of a bookshelf from the stairs when she was getting used to me and the resident cats.

  13. Keeping everything crossed that this will soon work out!

  14. Aw, she’s not used to rambunctious young kitties.. She will get to know them and their crazy ways though. Probably was a good idea to give her a safey safe place at night though. Patience, guys! Little older lady cats take longer to warm up!

  15. Baby paw steps…baby paw steps. Older ladies do not like disruptions and noise. Soon she’ll find a spot where she can keep an eye on things, but keep a little distance?

  16. Da brotherz actin like rambunkshuss kittz prubablee upset Momma Cat. She iz probablee wunderin why dey iz so cwazy!!!! MOL n no offence meant!!!
