Mama Gets the All Clear

Disciples of The Leader Otis,

Brother Henry here. One of the Guardians came home early from work yesterday to take Mama Cat to The Bad Place again. I gathered that this was a planned visit to ensure that her eye had healed well after the grass seed was removed. Planned or not, she was not happy to go. I saw a photo of her that was taken by the Guardian while they were in The Bad Place exam room. Mama looked pretty angry.

Mama did not look happy at The Bad Place.

Fortunately, I found out from Mama when she got home that the good people at The Bad Place said her eye had fully healed. She was excited because it means that she will no longer have to endure the Guardians putting drops in her eye every 6 hours. I thought that was pretty awesome too! So, to review, here is how Mama looked about two weeks ago:

Here’s Mama on July 6, when she came and asked us for help.

And here’s Mama yesterday, about two hours after she got home from The Bad Place:

Here’s Mama yesterday, after she got home from The Bad Place.

Oh, and not only does she now have two beautiful eyes again, she has also gained a half pound during the time she has been inside. That’s a good thing, because she was skin and bones before, but I wonder if that additional weight will affect her ability to perform the Flying Squirrel!? I guess time will tell. I’m just thankful she’ll still be able to see the artificial bird with both eyes, and that all of her future Flying Squirrel attempts will be made within the safely confining walls of The Promised Land.

Thanks again to all of you for your kind words and support during Mama Cat’s ordeal. And many thanks to those of you who gave to help fund her medical expenses. All of us, especially the Guardians, were humbled by your generosity which covered nearly three-quarters of Mama’s bill. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our feline and human hearts!

So Says Brother Henry

We’d also like to help with the Leader’s vet bill if you could tell us how. We love you all, and we particularly love your Guardians devotion and love for all of you. (Not to mention how you all make us laugh and sometimes cry) every day. Purrs to all of you and fingers are crossed for a positive outcome with the Leader’s test.

Does this mean Mama Cat will be staying with you permanently….or will she (gulp) be going back into Limbo??

    • I don’t think Leader Otis and the Guardians would ever let a cat under their protection go back into Limbo, Nijinsky Cat. Even if they temporarily took leave of their senses, Brother Henry would intervene with 17 pounds of tabby fury. Either Mama Cat will stay with the Cult, or the Guardians will find another safe home for her … hopefully one with a good photographer like Brother Oliver, so we’ll continue to get pictures of her.

    • As Rhiannon said, there is no more Limbo for Mama Cat. She is under our protection now. At this point, it is kind of up to her whether she stays with us or goes to a different forever home. Brother Oliver, Leader Otis, Sir Thomas and I are all doing our best to welcome her. We’ll see if she decides she likes living with us or not. πŸ™‚ – Brother Henry

  3. Good to hear that Mama’s eye has healed. I hate to think what may have happened to her had the Guardians not intervened. Now she is happy and safe. I bet everyone is glad she doesn’t need the eye drops anymore!

Mama cat looks much happier and healthier now that’s she’s indoors. That lovely orange fur looks softer after all the brushing too. Very happy to see her recovering and thriving!

  5. Sniff, sniff…passes Mom Linda a tissue…here Mom…I haven’t used the left side…sniff, sniff…happy leaky eyes for Mama Cat…both for her healed eye AND knowing she is now in The Promised Land inside The Cult of Otis. Wait til she gets to enjoy Kitty Valhala!

Mama looks like a different cat! Isn’t amazing what love can do. Without the love she wouldn’t have gotten the other things she needed. It’s all about love. Thank you, Guardians.

    • Thank you, CindyD! Mama is such a sweet cat. She’s easy to love. I hope she loves me as much as she seems to love the Guardians though. πŸ™‚

So happy Mama Cat is all better and she’s back to her cute cross-eyed self!

The change in Mama Cat’s appearance is amazing. Her coat seems fuller and brighter and her eyes are clear and alert. All this in a very short time. It is proof, once again, that cats thrive living inside. We are so happy to see Mama Cat looking so well. The Guardians have another feline star in their care.

  9. Beautiful Mama Cat! How lucky she was to have people to take care of her in her time of need.

  10. Yay for Momma! Who, by the way.. needs a new name, seriously! How about something like Merrygold, to denote both her extreme joy at being safely indoors now and the fact that she is one of the rare orange kitties who’s a female? Merrygold, Mother Superior of the Cult of Otis! (Momma Superior?) MOL That’s just my thought.. New name or not, I’m just glad she’s happy and healthy and indoors! Yay for your guardians!!

    • Hmmmm… I’m not sure if the Guardians are planning to change her name or not, Andrea. Leader Otis used to be “Sweet Pea”, and then He was “Le Monsieur”. When He was swept up in The Capture He received his saved name, which, of course, is Otis. Thomas remained Thomas after his Capture though. I guess the Guardians work in mysterious ways! – Brother Henry

  11. Oh Dog! You mean Mama Cat gets to stay? This is so exciting!!!!!

  12. Three purrs and cheers for a healthy Mama Cat!

We were happy to see a recovered Mama Cat. She is looking beautiful! Thank the Guardians for CARING and ACTING. Bandit, Selleck, and Their Person, Emily.

  14. Heather

Do the neighbors know you have their cat? Have they at least checked on her? ;Where is Cookie? I love Mama’s stink eye and it’s almost as good as her signature move.

I’m behind on my blog reading and am sad to see that poor leader O is still having a bad time. We are purring and praying for you all!

    • The Guardians have not heard a thing from the neighbor, Heather. No lost cat posters have gone up, and no knock on the door has come. They tried to contact him for three days before taking Mama Cat away, so they are not keen to go knocking on his door again.

Cookie is still around. The neighbor seems to connect more with her, and we see her going in and out of the open window next door. The Guardians are watching her closely though for any signs of neglect beyond what they are already seeing (we consider letting a cat roam free to be neglectful.)

Thanks for the purrs and prayers! – Brother Henry

  15. We’re so glad Mama Cat is doing so well. Does this mean she will get to stay inside now?? Awesome!

And Mama Cat…we get mad when we go to the Bad Place too.

    • She will definitely stay inside, Island Cats. We don’t know yet whether or not she will be able to stay with us though. It depends on how well she gets along with us, I think. – Brother Henry

  16. Batya Harlow

Glad Mama Cat’s eye is healed. I think her heart is healing, too, with all the love she’s getting. Now we just need good news about Leader Otis! Holding good thoughts and many purrs.

  17. Thank you cult of otis and guardians for taking mama to the bad place and caring for her.

  18. Wonderful news and wonderful work you have all done..she looks amazing..her coat is healthier she looks brighter..so hope she has a great new extra voluptuous Flying Squirrel now!! Have a great day guys and hugs to Otis and Mama cat πŸ™‚
    Fozziemum xx

    • Thanks Fozziemum! I can’t wait to see her indoor version of the Flying Squirrel. Thomas does a pretty good one himself these days. πŸ™‚

      -Brother Henry

      • Brother Henry..i admire this move and yet fear that Dinnemintz will start to try it…way too much ginger girl for that kind of action..there could be fallout!!! πŸ™‚

    Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue xo

    • Thanks Sherri-Ellen and Nylablue! Continuing to send healing purrs your way!!! – Brother Henry

      • Thank you Brither Henry….today Nylablue is eating well & had a proper poop. She is quiet but then we had company (sick company) all weekend so I am thinking she is just resting up….How is the Leader doing today?? We are praying for him also!!!
        Love Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue xo

      • Glad to hear Nylablue is doing a little better! The Leader is still hanging in there, but he’s as weak and shaky as always. He’s in remarkably good spirits despite his mobility challenges. – Brother Henry

      • Leader Otis is an inspiration to ALL of us 4 legged & 2 leggeds alike!!! I wish we lived closer so I could come & cuddle the Leader (if he would permit that).
Nylablue is stable altho a bit sad….she is by nature a melancholy kitty….she is out in Condo this evening so I hope that perks her up some!!!
Please give our kind regards & some snuggles to Leader from us Brother Henry.
        Your friends, Sherri-Ellen & Nylablue ❀
