Keep Your Eyes On The Birdie

My Disciples,

Yesterday, Brother Henry was sitting on the cat tree in the front window when he spotted a crunchy little birdie on the front lawn. He got very excited and stared intently at the feathery nugget.

Henry Eye On The Birdie

Brother Henry spotted a crunchy birdie. He was very excited.

Suddenly, Brother Oliver shouted “Squirrel!” from over near the side window. Brother Henry immediately looked toward the side window to see if he could get a glimpse of the squirrel.

Henry Eyes Off The Birdie

Brother Oliver yelled, “Squirrel!”, from the side window. Brother Henry turned to look for the squirrel.

As soon as Brother Henry looked in his direction, Brother Oliver said, “Never mind! It was just an old plush toy the Guardians left out for one of the Limbo kitties. Sorry. False alarm.” Brother Henry quickly turned back to the front window to resume watching the crunchy birdie. He was too late. The birdie had moved on.

Henry Eyes Back Where the Birdie Was

Brother Henry tried to look at the birdie again after the squirrel false alarm. The Birdie was gone.

Seeing that Brother Henry had lost sight of the bird, Brother Oliver said, “I guess that’s why they say ‘don’t take your eyes off the birdie!'” Brother Oliver then jumped down to the floor and started grooming himself. Feeling watched, he looked up at Brother Henry who was no longer looking out the window.

Henry Watching Oliver

Brother Henry was now looking at Brother Oliver. He did not look pleased.

Very wisely, Brother Oliver immediately got up and walked out of the room. Brother Henry did not take his eyes off of him until he was out of sight.

There’s an old story about a boy who cried wolf or a cat that cried squirrel and then a crunchy birdie came and pecked somebody’s eyes out and the Bassett Hound got a Glass Slipper. Or something.

    Shoot, I dunno.

Leader Otis: Speaking of crunchy birds, the Seattle PBS station is repeating their great program about crunchy crows (A Murder of Crows) on Nature, at 8 pm on Feb 20th. When Trout and Kismet watched it before, they thought they could get to the crows by sitting on top of the TV, or looking behind it. I’ve never seen them pay attention to a TV show before. You and the guys might want to make the Guardians turn it on for you.

    • My Guardians watched that too! I sat in front of the screen and tried to figure out how to get at those big yummy crunchies. The Guardians seemed to think that the crows would be more than I could handle though. I disagreed. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Brother Henry would make a mighty big crunchie!!!!
