The Leader is Home!

Disciples of The Leader Otis,

Brother Henry here. The Leader has come home from The Bad Place and is once again safe in His Indoor Domain! I haven’t been able to see Him yet because, as Brother Oliver told Me, He has been “sick kwesterd” in a room downstairs. At least I think he said “sick kwesterd”. I assumed it meant He has to be kept in a separate room for awhile because He feels a bit sick after His surgery… although the “kwesterd” part is a bit confusing. Anyway, even though I haven’t seen Him yet, Brother Oliver has. He said The Leader is very sore, kind of out of it and partly shaved. But the strangest thing of all was that Brother Oliver said that Leader Otis was wearing what appeared to be some sort of high-tech hearing amplifier!

Otis in bed with cone

Leader Otis is very sore, kind of out of it, partly shaved, and now equipped with a high-tech listening device.

Now, you may recall that just a few weeks ago, I saw a dog walk by outside wearing a similar eavesdropping device. At the time, we went to Defcat 2 and took up defensive positions until nightfall (except for Thomas who stayed up all night). It seems incredible, but it appears that while Leader Otis was at The Bad Place for His Hipsterectomy, He somehow found time to invent an effective counter for the dogs’ device! I am floored!

Brother Oliver informed Me that the site of the Hipsterectomy on Leader Otis’s leg was surprisingly small. It looked like it had been closed with four staples.

Otis staples

The site of Leader Otis’s Hipsterectomy was closed with four staples.

Brother Oliver tried to talk to the Leader, but the Leader mostly just groaned in response. Brother Oliver thought that He was on some kind of medicine that made Him groggy. He said He could smell it when He sniffed His head.

Brother Oliver said he could smell some kind of medicine when he sniffed Leader Otis’s head. He thought that was what was making The Leader groggy.

Fortunately, The Leader still seemed to have an appetite. Brother Oliver said that the Guardians were holding a bowl up to His mouth so He could have a bite to eat without leaving His bed. I don’t want to have a Hipsterectomy or anything , but I thought it sounded pretty awesome to be served a meal in bed.

Otis being fed

The Guardians were feeding Leader Otis in bed. That sounded awesome to me, but not the surgery part.

Brother Oliver said that he had to leave the room with the Guardians once they were done taking care of Leader Otis. He overheard them say that The Leader would need to be as quiet and still as possible for the next two weeks. Brother Oliver thinks that we’ll still get to visit Him, but only when the Guardians are there to supervise. For now though, He said The Leader seems to mostly want to sleep.

It’s such a relief to have Leader Otis back home where He belongs. It’s hard to think of Him hurting, but I know that He’s going to be up and around in no time. You can’t keep a good cat like Him down!

Oh, by the way, Brother Oliver and I are amazed and humbled by the response we have received to Operation Hipster. As of this writing, we were more than halfway to our goal! We have also been overwhelmed by the outpouring of supportive comments from all of you. I know that as soon as Leader Otis is coherent again, He too will be deeply moved by your show of love and concern.

Thank you all so, so much!

On a lighter note: be warned about the con men selling listening/detecting devices, we have sad hounds falling for their tricks

  3. Awww, Leader Otis looks so pitiful. I hope his next two weeks go by quickly for him and he’s out of pain soon.

  4. Batya

Hip, hip, HOORAY! (Pardon the bad pun.) So glad that Leader Otis is home where he belongs. Appetite is a great positive sign! Trout and Kismet love eating in bed, and had no idea that they are lucky to so without enduring surgery. Many purrs and gentle head butts to Leader Otis, the Brothers, and Thomas.

  14. Yay, so glad he’s home! Wow did they shave a huge area for such a tiny incision! Poor baby, probably has a cold butt, and no brother to snuggle up to it and keep it warm!
How dedicated of him to be listening for dog uprising chatter while he’s recovering!
Purrs and prayers and hugs for Otis!

  15. That is one impressively small incision! Many purrs for Leader Otis, and may he rest well and heal impressively fast and strong.

    Purrs to you,

  19. Well this is our first visit here but we sure are sending all of our purrs to leader Otis after his surgery. We sure hope his pain goes away really soon. That doesn’t sound like a fun thing to have done. We have a kitty here who was hit by a car and had to have most of her hip bone removed. I am wondering if it is some what of the same thing. Anyway we sure wish you the very best.

  20. We were visiting the Katnip Lounge Kats and Felix told us about Otis and his surgery. We’re sure glad he is home now and we hope he heals quickly and his hip is better!

The mom knows how this can be…the one that came before us had to have back surgery because he had bad arthritis.

  21. We were also visiting the Katnip Lounge Kitties and read about sweet Otis. So happy to see he’s home! Big purrs to you and him. We sure hope his recovery is speedy and smooth.
    xoxo, Katie & Glogirly

  23. Home is always better to heal, especially with purrs around!

You know, sometimes when her kittehs have been sick or injured or recovering, the Human has fed them a little fingerful of Gerber’s chick-hen or hams or lambie. Mmmmmm, such a delicious treat! Sometimes, if I feel a little under the weather or just in need of a treat, I’ll try to look all sad and needy and once in awhile I score a jar. It’s DELISHUS!! The perfect treat to take my mind of my troubles. Just sayin’.

Otis must be the happiest Boy ever to be on his home turf again. I would not want to have staples in me of course, but if you hafta have them, those look pretty neat and tidy. Good job, Stabby-Man at the Bad Place. We’ll be back to visit again soon, Pal. Hang in there and I hope you don’t have to wear the Cone of Shame for very long.

  25. Thank you all so much for the support! I know Leader Otis is going to appreciate all this love when He’s feeling better and we can share it with Him!

    – Brother Henry

  26. I am so pleased that he is back all safe and sound!
