Thomas in the Sun Day

My Disciples,

Yesterday, the Brothers and I were in the living room enjoying an afternoon sun break. Suddenly, we realized we were not alone. Someone else was sitting in the doorway to the room, soaking up a little sun himself.

As we were having an afternoon sun break in the living room, someone else joined us.

It was Thomas! While we have occasionally seen Thomas come out during the day, he usually moves from one hiding spot to another, but now he was just sitting calmly in the doorway. Brother Henry said, “Hey! Junior Agent T! Why don’t you come join us over here?” Thomas got an annoyed look on his face and said, “What? Come all the way out there in the daylight!? And open myself up to potential wiener dog attack? Senior Agent H, I thought you would be more concerned about security!”

Thomas said he didn’t want to come into the living room because it might open him up to a wiener dog attack.

Brother Henry said, “Ummmm… yeah. You’re right Thomas. Why don’t you just stay over there and enjoy that spot of sun. I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for any wiener dogs coming your way, and Brother O and I will intercept them before they can reach you. Now just enjoy the sun, will you?” Thomas seemed pleased with that. He even relaxed a little and truly embraced the sunlight.

Thomas relaxed after Brother Henry told him that he would protect him from attacking wiener dogs.

So Thomas is still progressing steadily toward shedding his fear. Well, not so much his fear of wiener dogs, but perhaps, in time, he will overcome that as well. In the meantime, it was just nice to see the little guy have a peaceful moment in the sun.

Does Your Cat Have SIS?

My Disciples,

Today I need to talk to you about a devastating illness that affects kitties everywhere. The symptoms of this illness include sudden loss of the ability to stand, extreme sleepiness, elevated body temperature, prolonged squinting, and excessive euphoria. The disease of which I speak is called, “Sunlight Incapacitation Syndrome”, SIS for short, and it may shock you to learn that your kitties may be infected.

Brother Oliver has been fighting the effects of this disease for years, but with little success. Fortunately, the Guardians have fully educated themselves on this illness. Since they know that he will be paralyzed, sometimes for hours by SIS, they have placed comfortable resting spots all around the house in areas that SIS attacks are most likely to occur.

Brother Oliver also struggles with SIS. The Guardians have strategically placed comfy resting spots in areas where SIS is likely to happen.

Sometimes though, the attack happens so suddenly that cats are unable to make it to a soft bed before the paralysis sets in. Brother Henry (yes, he too is an SIS sufferer) found himself in just such a position yesterday when an SIS attack struck right by the front door.

Sometimes SIS hits so suddenly, that cats can’t make it to an appropriate spot to ride out the attack.

I don’t know whether SIS is contagious, or if it is just something cats are born with, but it certainly seems to affect a huge number of kitties. I suspect that Thomas may also have it, but he stays in Valhalla all day long and I have never made it upstairs to check on him when the sun comes out. You see… I too suffer from SIS, and even the slightest bit of sunshine hitting My fur will knock Me right off My feet.

Yes, I have lived with SIS all My life. The effects are truly devastating…

So please, keep a close eye on your kitty for the tell-tale symptoms of this disease. You may want to place many soft beds throughout the house.  Perhaps the kitty will be able to make it to one of these “safey-safes” whenever he or she feels an attack coming on. And remember, after each attack, the kitty will need lots of love, snacks and possibly brushing so they can shake off any lingering effects of SIS. There is no known cure for this insidious affliction, but with a little care and preparation, you can at least help your kitty manage the symptoms. Oh, and some good, medical grade catnip will probably help too. It certainly couldn’t hurt.

The Sun Is Mocking Brother Henry

My Disciples,

This morning Brother Henry noticed a perfect sunbeam shining in through the curtains. He was all excited to nap while soaking up its toasty goodness. He plopped down and started adjusting himself. Now, there’s a LOT of Brother Henry to adjust, so it took him quite a while to get everything just like he wanted. Just when his hind legs were at the correct elevation, his body was at the proper extension and his front legs were at the right angle he noticed that the sunbeam had moved. It was now sitting about six inches away, mocking him in his newly achieved comfort.

By the time Brother Henry got himself situated comfortably, the sunbeam had moved.

As Brother Henry lay there, trying to control his annoyance and deciding whether to move or stay put, one of the Guardians appeared to make his decision easier. She had just pulled Brother Henry’s favorite blanket out of the clothes warming machine in the basement. She draped the blanket over the rocking chair and Brother Henry immediately jumped up and sprawled out on the fuzzy warmness.

The Guardians came to Brother Henry’s rescue with a toasty blanket from the clothes warming machine.

Brother Henry had finally found the perfect balance of comfort and warmth. He slowly drifted off to sleep with his mighty purr reverberating through the house. He slept soundly… right up to the point at which I decided I wanted to sleep on toasty warmness too. Why should Brother Henry have all the fun?

Another Sunday Sun Day

My Disciples,

I apologize for the late update today, but I awoke this morning to a glorious Sunday Sun Day! As I’m sure you are aware, we kitties are solar powered. It’s been cloudy around here for quite a few days, so I had to get out into My Outdoor Domain and recharge My batteries while I could.

Like all kitties, I am solar powered. I had to take advantage of this Sunday Sun Day.

I did feel bad that I wasn’t posting an update though, especially with yesterday’s revelation that Thomas might have been part dog, or infected with dog somehow. I tried to get one of The Brothers to post to let you know that we still haven’t gotten in to see Thomas but that I think the Guardians might be just about ready to let us go in there. The Brothers said that they couldn’t post for Me though because their batteries had gotten low and they needed to recharge too.

Brothers Oliver and Henry said they couldn’t update the blog for Me because they had to recharge too.

I asked Brother Henry why, if he needed to recharge, was he sitting inside a box. He told Me that He prefers to let the sun come in through his face and head because it recharges his brain first. He said he needed to make sure his brain was fully charged so that he could always be alert and ready to protect Me from any dangers that may arise. There was no way I could argue with that!

All right. There’s still some sun hitting My Outdoor Domain, so I think I better get back out there. I don’t think I’m quite up to max charge yet. I may even try Brother Henry’s brain charge technique! The more I think about it, the more it just makes sense.

Sun Day Snapshot

My Disciples,

As it is another Sun Day today, I must attend to extremely important Cult of Otis business in My Outdoor Domain.  I know you are disappointed that I have no words of wisdom to offer at this time, but I have included a photo of Me taking care of the extremely urgent matter that is drawing Me away so you can see how absolutely crucial it is that I tackle this right away.

See! This matter is extremely urgent, and I must attend to it!

So, I hope you will forgive My absence.  I will be back as soon as I have thoroughly addressed this problem.

Today Is Sun Day

My Disciples,

Today is Sun Day.  It’s not a day that comes around very often in the area in which The Brothers and I live.  Sun Day can happen any day of the week, and it just happened to happen on Sunday this week.  Sun Day is a day of worship, and there are certain rituals that we take part in to celebrate this glorious day.

This is what My Sun Day ritual looks like.

So if your Sunday is also Sun Day, get out there and enjoy it.  Let your kitties enjoy it as well, but make sure they do so in a safe, contained manner.  Now, if you will excuse Me, I must get back to My ritual.
