It Was A Rough Night

My Disciples,

Ooooof! I am exhausted. I feel like I barely slept at all last night. I have no idea what Thomas was up to, but he was stampeding all through the house into the wee hours of the morning. Since I sleep downstairs with the Guardians, and he was mostly on the second floor, it sounded like a herd of elephants was tromping around over My head! And I swear I heard him shouting out a time or two as well. Something like, “Aaaaaaack!”, or “A Daaaaaaaack!” or something. It was hard to tell because it was slightly muffled through the ceiling. Not so muffled that it allowed Me to ignore it though.

Otis exhausted from no sleep

I barely slept at all last night thanks to Thomas’s stampede-a-thon.

I finally got up at around 4:30 am and headed upstairs. I found Thomas sitting on top of the bench by the computer desk with a startled look on his face. I could tell though that he was trying his hardest to look like he wasn’t up to anything, so he ended up with a strange expression that I would call “startled innocence”.

Thomas with startled innocence

Thomas was struggling to look innocent even as he appeared startled.

I asked Thomas what the heck he had been doing all night and he just said, “Leader Otis, the price of safety is eternal vigilance!” This threw Me for a moment because it sounded exactly like something Brother Henry would say. Thomas then said, “Good night!” and darted off toward the stairs to Kitty Valhalla. As he disappeared I thought I heard him whispering something to himself about “… shadows but not smoke!” or something. I considered following him to question him further, but the call of the couch beckoned Me to sleepy time. I slept for a good, long while, but My sleep was troubled by dreams of elephants cloaked in shadow… but not smoke.

  1. “Startled innocence” – very funny and describes that look perfectly :D

  2. Secret Agent T, you are one wild crazy very fun and extremely handsome. Would you mind sharing how big you have become since entering this safe and wondrous, albeit sometimes bizarre, furrever home? Thanks paw pats Savvy

    • Thomas has grown quite a bit, Savannah, but none of us is exactly sure how big he has become. He’s bigger than Me now, but still a bit smaller than The Brothers (even though he looks as big because of all that fur). I think the Guardians would love to weigh him, but he would still shred them with tooth and claw if they tried to pick him up. He’s a strange little guy. He walks around the house like he owns the place, lets the Guardians pet him as long as they sit down up in Kitty Valhalla and wait for him to come to them, and plays with The Brothers and Me. He’s still growing and changing, but still a wild child inside. :-)

      • oh, sweet T…did not realize the G’s still can’t pick him up and such. Of course, no one can pick me up either, but when Dad does manage to scruff me every 5 weeks for my nail trim, I never ever hiss, growl, scratch, bite..but I sure don’t let Dad get too close to me until the next time…sigh…and I am due for my annual check up now so once again, Mom will grab me and have the vet do nails so I only have to be grabbed once…pawful for all of us

  3. Leader Otis, you always look so sleepy. They really ought to let you get proper rest and not keep you up with all their antics.

  4. Sorry to hear you had a rough night. Hopefully tonight will be better. Have I told you how much you look like my lil’ sis? Or how much she looks like you… She’s still technically a kitten (9 months now) but I think she’ll look even more like you once she’s doing all the growing up

  5. It must be said that Leader Otis and Brother Thomas are two of the cutest kitties out there. Thomas’ expression in that photo is priceless! x

  6. Otis, Thomas bears watching…

  7. Poor Leader Otis, you deserve to get plenty of sleep. As for your conversation with Thomas, are you sure it wasn’t a dream? Sometimes you might be sure Thomas is there listening to your wise words and valuable counsel, only to blink and find he’s not there at all. I only ask because you were so sleepy. It would be easy to confuse Thomas with…..a shadow.
We hope you are healing well,

  8. Startled Innocence! Perfect title to that picture!
Poor Otis, you better nap at least half of the day too, just in case some weird shadow elephant decides to A Daaaaaaack again tonight!

  9. Leader Otis, we’re sorry to hear your sleep was disrupted. But we bet you got more sleep than Brother Thomas.

  10. Love that “innocent” look! Lol! Hope you can get some rest tonight Otis!

Myself, I’d call that “Deer in the Headlights.” Just sayin’.
