My Disciples,
We’ve had some thunderstorms and other scary disturbances around here the last few days, and I know that Thomas has been a little freaked out by the noise. So, I decided that today should be Soothing Sunday, a day dedicated to making Thomas feel safe and secure. It started early this morning when the Guardians let me into Kitty Valhalla so I could start the soothing process. I found Thomas tucked into one of the cubby holes under the window. I tucked Myself into the adjacent cubby and just let him know everything was OK.

Soothing Sunday started with Me sitting in the cubby next to Thomas and letting him know that everything was OK.
After just sitting with him for awhile and letting him know that he wasn’t alone, I invited Thomas out to play. He’s usually pretty shy about playing out in the open, but to My surprise he agreed to give it a try. After a few minutes of batting at the feather, he relaxed quite a bit. We both laid down and swatted at the feather as it passed between us.

Thomas really started to relax as we were playing with the feather toy. It was nice to see him out in the open.
At this point, Brother Henry asked to come into Valhalla. Brother Henry is so big that he often makes Thomas nervous when he comes too close. My attempts at soothing Thomas made him less nervous though. Brother Henry was able to walk up and greet him with a nose sniff and Thomas returned the greeting without hissing!

My soothing efforts were working. Thomas even shared a sniff greeting with Brother Henry without hissing at him!
Brother Oliver decided that he too wanted to join in on the Soothing efforts. He entered Kitty Valhalla and exchanged a greeting with Thomas too. Everyone was nice and relaxed. In fact, Brother Oliver plopped down on the Sacred White Cloud of Eternal Comfiness, I plopped down on the floor, Thomas perched on the kitty hammock, and we all just sat and enjoyed each other’s company.
We eventually left the room when Thomas fell asleep. I am very happy with the way the morning of Soothing Sunday went, and we plan to repeat our soothing efforts later today when Thomas wakes up from his nap. He’s still not ready to have the run of the house, but the more comfortable he becomes with all of us in his current accommodations, the less likely it will be that we run into trouble when he is allowed a bit more freedom. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll even let him take a turn at updating The Blog of Otis. Only time will tell.
So Sayeth Otis

Thomas is doing so well! Your efforts are really paying off, Leader Otis. You and the brothers are to be commended!
Thanks Christine. I look forward to the day when Thomas and I can chase each other all over the house. Brother Oliver gets mad when I chase him, and Brother Henry is so big he doesn’t even run when chased.
Thomas is proving to be a trooper!
Yes he is! We’re all impressed with his progress.
Otis, if only humans around the world were as insightful as you! A little soothing goes a long way. Soft pat sent.
Thanks Phil.
Thomas is a handsome cat! Glad everyone is helping him feel safe. You have kind guardians!
Thanks msmouse7. He is pretty handsome. I mean, he is a tabby after all
.
Heartwarming to see such progress!!! Well done everyone
Thanks Cat’s Cats! We still have a long road ahead, but Thomas seems willing to walk it with us so far.
Good news about Thomas! It made my day!
Good job on your part too!
Purrs
Thanks Texas!
Thank you for the update. We worked hard on Sunday but Kitten Thunder is making up for it with a long nap this morning.
I’m just catching up and am so happy to see Thomas’s progress. Nice teamwork!
Thanks lemonysqueezes!
